The Syrian Ministry of Defense has given remnants of the former regime a 10-day deadline to dismantle remaining military sites, warning of direct intervention if the order is not met.
The ministry said abandoned military units, divisions, and brigades left behind by former President Bashar al-Assad had become a pretext for Israeli airstrikes. It warned that if the sites were not removed, authorities would launch operations across the coastal region and the countryside of Homs to locate commanders and associated personnel.
Major General Murhaf Abu Qasra, also known as Abu Hassan 600, claimed that recent military action by Israel indicated ongoing communication between foreign powers and Maher al-Assad, the brother of the ousted president.
He alleged that Maher al-Assad was still providing military coordinates and accused the former regime of trying to "burden the new Syria with its legacy" to distract from reconstruction efforts.
There has been no response from Maher al-Assad or his representatives.
