Al-Awsat Publishing Ltd. rewarded local Hussien Faghman by gifting him its entire back catalog, as a token of appreciation for his purchase of a book they published, even though he could have easily downloaded a pirated copy of it anywhere online without concern for intellectual property and copyright.

The director of the publishing house said Hussien’s actions were one of a kind.

“He is the first person to buy a copy since the advent of pdf files, and the emergence of sites for pirated books, and humans learning how to use a mouse to press the download button,” he said.

“We tried everything,” the director added. “We announced this offer, and waited years and years, until we were about to lose all hope, before we found a buyer for one of the books stacked on shelves and at kiosks in the street.”

For his part, Hussien thanked the publishing house for its generous gift as it compensated for his remorse in buying a book he had already downloaded.

“I actually bought the book because I like its cover, and it goes well with my coffee table, next to the red vase,” he said. “Now I can decorate the whole house with miscellaneous objects from their collection after I scan them and put them out on the internet, for the greater good of course.”
