Israel closed a key border bridge with Jordan following an attack in which an assailant opened fire on Israelis, killing two soldiers. Israel’s military said the attacker had travelled in a truck from Jordan.
Israel blamed Jordan for the attack, citing “vile incitement,” while military chief Eyal Zamir recommended halting aid from Jordan pending new security protocols. Jordan condemned the attack as a “violation of international law.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu has condemned the Jordanian response. Speaking at a press conference from his beach house, Netanyahu said, “The Jordanian government does everything we want them to. Except this.”
He added: “We’ve been very clear. If a Palestinian commits an attack, we demolish the house, restrict movement, and make sure their family feels the heat. It’s very simple. Very effective. Everyone knows it works. And yet… Jordan—Jordan!—thinks it can make its own decisions.”
Mr Netanyahu tapped a Google Maps image of Gaza: “At least we Israelis are not hypocrites. We know how to punish. Do as I say, and do as I do.”
