Saudi Launches First AI That Respects Arab Culture by Avoiding Taboo Topics

ALLaM, a new Arabic AI model, is set for launch this month. The Saudi-created and trained AI is set to respect Arab cultural values: When users try to circumvent “acceptable” topics like domestics or trivia like song lyrics to discuss legal, political, or religious issues, it will reciprocate by ignoring them back.

ALLaM’s development team has been vocal in affirming that the AI has undergone rigorous testing. Apart from fluency in every Arabic dialect, it will cleverly evade discussing anything taboo, directly or otherwise. It will also be able to report anyone who takes issue with stock answers and attempts to break Arab cultural norms by attempting to engage seriously in political or legal discussions to the proper authorities.
