In a statement, the European Union has expressed its “gratitude” towards the United States for its ongoing efforts to facilitate aid delivery to Gaza, despite Gazans’ complaints about “dying” by having aid dropped on their heads, the breakdown of the floating pier every 12 hours and the widespread mockery this has induced, and objections to its use by the Israeli military in the Nuseirat refugee camp massacre.
In a simultaneous statement, EU High Representative Josep Borrell conveyed the Union's concern over its efforts to alert partners about the looming famine crisis. He emphasised the role of the pier in meeting the daily needs of Gazans, citing the dispatch of 500 trucks over two and a half months. Borrell underscored the humanitarian imperative, stating it is unacceptable to deprive Gazans of their essential aid quota—a full 40 grams per individual.
