Officials have decided to levy a tax on negative energy in an effort to plug a hole in the budget deficit, after noticing an increase in disgruntlement among the population due to rising inflation in the prices of essential goods, sources told Alhudood.

“We have long subsidized and distributed negative energy to the people for free as a side effect of our decisions and services, but the economic situation has forced us to consider new ways to exploit it just like everything else in the country,” a source close to the energy minister said.

The sources said the new tax would likely be lifted after five years, at which point they expected ordinary citizens to become producers of negative energy rather than just consumers of it.

“Perhaps we will one day even export it to the West,” one official said.
